Three self-reflection tools

None of these score you against a normal range, because there isn't one. They exist to turn a vague, anxious feeling into something specific enough to act on.

What's shaping your desire

Five plain questions about context — stress, sleep, load, resentment, timing. It hands back a context, never a level, and never a number to compare yourself against.

What this is based on
  • Built around the variables the research most consistently links to shifts in desire — sleep, chronic stress, unresolved resentment and simple timing — rather than around frequency.
  • It is not a screening instrument and it is not validated. It cannot and does not attempt to measure how much desire you 'should' have.
  • Every outcome points at a guide, and the outcome that mentions health hands off to a clinician rather than guessing.

What it cannot tell you: It only reflects what you selected today, and context shifts week to week. It cannot tell you whether a mismatch with a partner is 'serious' — that depends on two people, not five answers.

Worth knowing

There is no normal number, and we mean that literally

No study has ever produced a defensible 'normal' frequency or intensity for desire, and any site that publishes one is making it up. What research does show reliably is that desire is shaped far more by context — stress, sleep, timing, relationship temperature — than by anything fixed about a person. Read a result here as a pointer toward context, not a verdict on you or your relationship.

Conversation planner

Tick what you actually want this conversation to achieve. It composes an opening line and a short script you can use more or less verbatim.

What this is based on
  • Built around what couples research says actually derails these conversations: bad timing, blame framing, and no plan for a follow-up.
  • The script is deliberately usable by a nervous person on a first attempt, not an ideal communicator on a good day.

What it cannot tell you: A script changes the opening, not the whole conversation. Expect the first attempt to open the subject rather than resolve it, and plan to come back to it.

Knowledge check

Eight things people commonly get wrong about desire. See which of your assumptions the research actually backs up.

What this is based on
  • Each question targets a specific, common misconception rather than testing trivia — drawn from what shows up most often in questions to sex therapists and researchers.
  • Scored questions, not a diagnostic instrument — the result describes what to read next, never a level of anything about you.

What it cannot tell you: A quiz score describes what you knew today, not your desire, your relationship or anyone else's. The lowest band is exactly as valid a starting point as the highest.
